So when I first moved to Calgary I wanted something to do. I could not work for a bit because I had to wait for my papers, so i googled "sewing jobs in Calgary" And Maria's add came up that she needed interns to help her put her collection together for Alberta fashion week 2009. I emailed her, and got to meet her and see what she was up to. I have to say this internship was super fun! Please check out her web site www.mariaorduzpinto.com Check out this website too: www.calgaryfashion.ca
Anyways, back to my internship. I learned so much. And it was a ton of fun to see Maria's line go from idea, to sketch, to pattern, to mock up garment to the final design. I got to help fit the models, be there for the dress rehearsal, and help her out the day of the show. Thanks Maria you are the best! And now I am ready to tackle my own collection, I am partnering up with Elizabeth Hood of "Hood Wear" Check out her blog too: www.hoodwear.blogspot.com
We want to combine our skills and put together a ready to wear line for Alberta Fashion Week 2010. It will be our fall 2010 line.
stay tuned, more to come!

Bridesmaid dresses cont... with flower girl dresses!

So this was my wedding, I had all of my bridesmaids choose what hue of purple they wanted, and they got to pick from about 8 different dresses I designed. Then I made the dresses out of simple white cotton, and then hand dyed them. They turned out great!

The yellow dresses are made out of this fun matte stretch satin, one is strapless with a bubble skirt and the other one is a halter with an A-line skirt.
The navy dress is one that I made for my friends wedding that I was in, it is a cotton strapless dress, edged in black silk with an A-line skirt.

Spring Fashion show 2009 cont.

I had more then this in the show, but alas this showed me to always have a photographer that knows their stuff. These came from a friend of mine, (thanks Malia!) the ones from the photographer where so bad! Oh well it was my first show. I cant wait for this spring show,

Quiksilver inc. /Roxy swim wear Internship

Here is a photo from my Roxy Internship. I worked in the pattern making department. I also did tests on the fabric, and did a lot of pre-work on the fabric so the pattern makers and markers could do their job. I had a ton of fun, and it was really cool to see and learn how they did things.

Clothing I made for Sewing class

The yellow dress was the most fun, but I did enjoy doing the rest. The strapless top was designed by yours truly, and was made out of all vintage fabrics an notions. I think the blouse was the most challenging, still have lots to learn!
